QB8 Vino-2015 Masi Campofiorin

We recenty ate at one of our favorite local restaurants, Angelo’s Brick Oven Pizzeria and Italian restaurant (www.angelosbrickoven.com) and discovered this magnificent wine to accompany our amazing dinner! 2015 Masi Campofiorin is delicious!

We wanted something full bodied and well rounded and boy were we not disappointed! This is a wine from Northern Italy (Veneto) in an appellation called Valpolicella which means “valley of cellars” in Italian. These are made with the Amarone grape varietals. This red is made from local Veronese grapes Corvina, Rondenella and Molinara vinified and then refermented with a small percentage of semi dried grapes of the same varieties. The wine is aged in Slavonian oak barrels.

What makes this unique is Masi’s Campofiorin is the original “Supervenetian” and is made with their double fermentation technique. Double fermenting lends to the deep ruby/garnet color, which I absolutely love! I love swirling this glass watching the ruby waves coat and swirl down the glass lazily.

The aromas are definitely dark cherry and berries, with a hint of spices. This had soft to medium tannins and a good long finish (meaning the flavors savored in my mouth even when the sip was gone). This is very smooth and delicious and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this bottle. Highly recommend!

While there is not much this wine would not go well with, it was simply amazing with the mean Chef Angelo suggested for us. We started with fresh beef carpaccio and then I moved on to grilled swordfish while my wife enjoyed the pork chop. The jammy wine deliciously complemented every bite! I am excited to try the full range of Masi wines in the future and eventually visit the Italian winery to taste it right from the source (http://www.masi.it)! Saluti!
