Quick Meat Sauce

Who doesn't love a great Italian sauce?  I know I do!  I NEVER buy jarred sauce any more.  Why would I when a delicious healthy sauce is only minutes away!!!  I could eat this just as it is a with a glass of red wine!  This sauce is quick and versatile.  You can make as a meat sauce as I often do or skip the meat and add chopped basil for a delicious marinara.  Read further for the recipe.  This is basically David Rocco's (LOVE him!) 5 minute sauce with meat added...

First heat up a dutch oven pan and about 4-5 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil in a pan.  Next, add the chopped onions and cook over medium high heat until translucent.
Sprinkle in the Italian seasonings (rubbing between your two hands over pan), the red chili flakes, salt and pepper and cook for another minute or two.
Add the chopped garlic and cook for another minute...
if you want to go with marinara sauce, skip the next step and jump right to the tomatoes section.  If you are a carnivore like me, next comes the meat....
Next add the ground beef and Italian sausage and break up into chunks with wooden spoon.  Continue to cook until browned (almost there in this pic!)...
Next come our best supporting actor and actress in this show, the crushed tomatoes and San Marzano tomatoes....they are a beautiful couple aren't they?!  First add the crushed tomatoes and stir.  Then add the San Marzano tomatoes, squishing the tomatoes with a cooks best tool, clean hands, as you add it to the sauce.  Quickly rinse and dry your hands and stir the sauce.
Next, reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes.  If you are just using this to go over pasta, it is even better if you can simmer longer on low heat but it's also delicious just as it is now!  Use in your favorite recipe and enjoy!!!!
